What Are the Most Successful Topics to Write an Essay on?

Coming up with a good topic is the quick track for success for your essay. However, not all topics are created equal, and some of them are downright nonsense. Choosing a topic is something that should be done with thought and consideration, and it should not be just the first thing that pops into your head. It might seem like there is an easy answer to what are the most successful topics to write an essay on, but this is sadly not the case. Good topics depend primarily on three things. These are the type of essay you are writing for, your intended audience, and your local writing Meta.

The type of essay is going to be the first thing that narrows down your selection of topics. Just think for a moment, you cannot use a topic arguing a point on politics for a narrative essay! That is just silly. Instead, consider your position and come up with things that align with your type of essay. What other things can be written, what comes to mind, what kind of answers do you find on the internet? The type of essay is the number one thing that chooses the topic, as most topics that work for one kind of essay are useless for others.

The next thing you need to think about is your audience. Who are you trying to communicate to? If you have a grade, you are most likely trying to impress your professor. If this is the case, no matter what the assignment says, you need to cater your essay topic for that need. Consider the political alignments of those involved, and the kind of class your professor has been teaching. If you are writing professionally or for some other audience, consider who you are writing for. What do they want to read, and how do you communicate with them effectively using their language? This is something you should be thinking about, because topics that can appeal to what your audience wants is going to define the most successful essay topics.

The last thing that you are narrowing your topic for the local Meta of other writers. Simply, do not write the same things that other people are around you writing or you will land into trouble, quickly. Similarity is derivative, and derivative is boring. Instead, find out the best writers around you, this is the competition. Find topics that are different from theirs, or you will be competing directly with those more skilled than you, instead choose a topic that you can carve out your own niche for.
